Stansbury Triathlon--Relay

Joe Sindad, Tony Gonzales and I participated in the Stansbury Triathlon this year as team "Los Tres Caballeros".  We signed up for the olympic distance, which meant that I would swim 1500 meters (one mile) and then pass the timing chip to Joe in transition, who would then bike 24 miles and return to pass the timing chip to Tony, who would perform the 10K (6.2 mile) run to anchor our team.  If you thought that run-on sentence was exhausting, imaging actually DOING it! :)

The Stansbury Tri was held at Stansbury Park, which is just north of Tooele.  It is a beautiful area and our team has held several training sessions to get ready for the big day.  I could talk about the day, but it is so much more fun to show it.  Get ready for lots of pictures...

Packet pick up the night before in Riverton at Run Gr8.

Morning of...pumping the tires
My face says it all---tired and nervous.  Mostly nervous.

Stansbury Park Lake

This was so scary...I was nervous about having to swim with the men because of my "relay" status.

This is a great pic showing the dirt slope entrance.

10 seconds to gun...
Go!

Becca had me in her sights the whole time...and on her finger!

Done! 50 minutes later, out of the swim.
Grateful for the help

Running after swimming a mile is so strange.  It is very much like the feeling when you walk really fast on the airport moving sidewalk and then walk off and feel WOBBLY!

Heading up the hill to T1 (first transition) to pass off the timing chip to Joe

Joe takes the timing chip and is ready to head out

Setting out for 24 miles

I am so grateful for my partner.  I love her and how much of a cheerleader she is for me.

Tony getting psyched for his upcoming run

HOT!  I love this woman.

Joe is back!  He crushed the bike course--pedaling at 21 mph he was back in 56 minutes

Tony is off for a 10K

Mad dash to the finish!

WOOT!!!  6.2 miles down, he is back!

I had such a blast with my friends.  It was a beautiful Saturday in Stansbury and felt great to push ourselves to personal PR's that we hadn't seen.

Out with the old, in with the new

Sort of...

I have been behind in blogging for about a year.  And I'm not just saying one or two posts behind, I'm saying MONTHS and MONTHS behind.  I keep a word document detailing our lives and listing posts, but it is rare that I actually get on and enter the information from the word document into the blog until about, oh, eight months later....

Unacceptable.

I have decided to change my strategy.  Every time I blog, I'm going to post two updates: one from the past (catching up!) and one from the present (what's going down in our lives in real time).  This will help me catch up on the blog without increasing the gap between present and past.  It will also help any one who reads our blog (hi Christina, Melissa, and Ashley) feel like they are getting information in real time, as opposed to learning about us from 6 months ago.

I love blogging about our lives and find it so fun to go through our blog and remember the times that I never would have without documenting the pictures and words, or relive the memories that we cherish together.

So, blogging continues, hopefully at a more realistic approach!

Brandi Carlile

Brandi Carlile is hands down our favorite singer and therefore we see her whenever she comes to SLC.  Thankfully, for the past three years she has been part of the Red Butte Garden Summer Concert series and this has quickly been established as one our favorite summer "To Do's".  This year we took my sister Taylor along with us for her birthday.  Good times ensued.  There are so many things I love about this concert:  lounging on blankets, hanging with Becca and this year Tay, packing and nibbling at picnic food and drinks, and generally enjoying being outdoors.  Of course, the music is awesome.  There is something about Brandi's songs that speak to our souls.  This year her SLC stop was the final date of the tour and as such she was having fun and played the longest set she's played to date in SLC--almost three hours.  FAB.  To start the day she said "We love being in Salt Lake City and tonight we're going to rock your faces off".  And they did.
